Madrid is the capital of Spain. It is situated at the heart of the country in the Castillian plain. The population of Madrid is over 3 million.
Madrid offers something for everyone. It is a business, banking and commerce center, the locations of the Government and Parliament and hosts the Spanish Royal Family.
Madrid is surrounded by industrial areas including food, textile, and metal working factories. Most of the industrial area is to the south of the city. As well as industry and business Madrid is like many capital cities with a rich heritage of cultural and artistic activity. The city is a shopping mecca and has a lively cosmopolitan scene with a multitude of restaurants, bars, 5 star Madrid hotels and many night clubs.
Areas worth visiting on a trip to Madrid include the grand metropolis of Madrid, the Puerta del Sol, and the Gran Vía. The Plaza Mayor (Main Square), the Palacio Real (Royal Palace) are other must see tourist destinations.
