Hyderabad – The Pearl City

The city of Hyderabad in India is also known as the Pearl City.  For visitors it has a multitude of attractions including gardens and resorts, heritage monuments, lakes and parks, as well as restaurants, shops and museums.  There are many places to stay in the city including guest houses, resorts and impressive five star hotels in Hyderabad.

One must see area of Hyderabad is the Golconda Fort which translates into ‘Shepherd’s Hill’. The Golconda Fort is renowned for its palaces and features unique acoustics, and original water supply system.  It is the home of the Fateh Rahben gun.  Visitors to the fort will be able to view a sound and light show.

Another attraction which is close to the Golconda Fort are the Qutb Shahi Tombs. These tombs hold the Qutb Shahi kings.  It was the kings who planned and constructed the tombs.   The tombs are old.  In fact they may be the oldest monuments in the city of Hyderabad. Another important building is the Legislative Assembly which was constructed in 1913.  This building was originally the Hyderabad Town Hall and includes a massive statue of Mahatma Gandhi at it’s entrance.

Charminar was built in 1591 and this ancient building is located at the centre of the old city. Charminar includes prayer spaces and a mosque.  A night time visit is advised as it is illuminated in spectacular style.  This is one of many spectacular sights in Hyderabad.
