The modern day hot tub, Jacuzzi or tub has deep historical roots. This form of relaxation has been around for centuries. People have been using geysers, hot springs and other forms of hot water to relax for years and years.
In ancient Egypt there were hot springs that were said to have healing powers. So pharaohs bathed and waded in the springs to promote health and relaxation. Ancient Greece philosophers put a premium on the healing powers and importance of water. Civilizations were built around hot springs, geysers and water. They knew the importance and thought there were health benefits to building cities around them.
There was also importance put on geysers and hot springs in the Far East and those cultures as well. Historically, probably the most ancient form of hot tubbing for social and relaxation gains were in Rome and Roman cultures. Roman Baths were a meeting place for important people. The history of Bath, England started after the area was used as a series of hot tubs and bathing areas that were used by Queen Elizabeth.
Modern day spas and hot tubs are the product of one family, the Jacuzzi family. A bath tub pump was invented because one of the Jacuzzi sons suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and they wanted to help ease his pain. The family refined the technology and then released it, called the Roman bath, good name huh? Hot tubs at that time were seen as something only the rich had in their homes. Today there are varieties for every budget.
