From Hawaii to the Pros
Anthony Carter has been in the NBA for 10 years and has played in many games. In the NBA he has played for the Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He also spent some time playing overseas in Italy. However, his journey started in college at the University of Hawaii. There haven’t been too many professional athletes to come from playing collegiately at Hawaii and make it pro. Most people who go to Hawaii are there for a vacation and are looking to relax and are searching for hotels .
Anthony Carter starred at the University of Hawaii for two years and averaged 18.4 points per game. After his college career he was not drafted directly into the NBA. Instead he was able to sign on with the Miami Heat after going to training camp and fighting for a spot. As a member of the Miami Heat Carter played a big roll in the playoff battles against the Heat’s man rivals, the New York Knicks . Carter bounced around from team to and while he always played his role well it was a struggle for him to stick with a team.
Eventually Carter signed on with the Denver Nuggets and found a role that he felt comfortable with. Backing up Chauncey Billups and running the point guard for the second unit is where Carter thrives. He has an aggressive mentality that fits in well with his team because he is not waiting on anybody he gets the ball and goes and that is exactly what the coach wants from his second unit. There isn’t much fall off from the starters to the subs when Carter is playing at his best. Coming out of Miami Anthony Carter was undrafted however he was able to have a 10 year career which is longer than many of the other players that were actually taken in the draft.
