Picking a Pool Builder

Share Button

Choosing a contractor for any major home improvement project is a big decision. When that project involves a pool — something that symbolizes a family’s dreams and fantasies about “the good life” — whom to trust with the project can take on extra significance. It’s best, however, when staring at a long list of Dallas pool builders to remember that this isn’t about a dream, it’s about a project with specifications and deadlines and to choose someone who can meet those efficiently and, hopefully, cost-effectively.

When hiring any type of building contractor, homeowners will consult with friends and family members for recommendations or ask neighbors or co-workers about their own experiences with a similar project. Once they have a list of names, they need to carefully investigate each company or independent contractor. One of the best things to do is to check with the BBB and other consumer agencies to see if there have been complaints lodged against a company and, most importantly, how they handled those complaints. Another thing to check is that they have the proper licenses and insurance to complete the work.

Once the list is narrowed down to two or three pool builders, then the customer should meet with each to discuss their specific project and get estimates. They can also use this time to inspect the builder’s office and showroom, if they have one, to get a general impression of them. Then it’s a matter of looking at the various estimates and considering the reputation and personality of the builder, and making a final decision.

Safes Offer Peace of Mind

Share Button

To anyone who watches tv news it seems as if home invasions are rising even in small towns. The reality is that most burglaries, including home invasions, take only minutes. Expert thieves know exactly where to look to find valuables, and they do it as quickly as possible. They know that every second is one more chance they’ll get caught. Having your valuables easily accessible just makes their job easier. Investing in a home security system and sturdy window locks is only half the battle. A home safe can provide additional security. Even if these hit-and-run thiefs make it through the door, they won’t have time to crack a safe.

Home safes provide that extra bit of protection. They are designed to hold jewelry, money, important documents and other valuables. There are even specially designed gun safes to secure firearms and ammunition. The latter serve the added purpose of securing guns from the curiosity of children. Safes can be fireproof and come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. They can be hidden in walls or floors or the larger ones can sit, immovable, in a closet or hidden corner of the home.

Even if a home is never robbed, just knowing the safe is there gives the homeowner another level of security and one less thing to worry about.

Evolution of the Steam Shower

When a toddler is told he must take a bath, his reaction is often one of protest, although, once in the water, the toddler usually enjoys the experience. In fact, bathing has always been an essential activity for people, even if attitudes toward it have varied as much as the toddler’s. It’s considered both a private activity as well as a public one.

In the 3rd Century, bathing emporiums first came into fashion among the Greeks and Romans, who constructed large, costly bath houses, where they would be able to conduct business or socialize. Some baths had lecture halls, even art galleries and rooms for prayer and meditation. The bigger bath houses were a combination of healing, entertainment, social festivities, and physical fitness. Some of these houses were able to contain as many as 6,000 bathers at a time. These baths were everywhere that the Romans went, and one of the best examples is preserved in Bath, England . The Turks developed bath houses, too, very hot baths that became known as Turkish baths or steam baths.

Today, the steam bath has evolved. Instead of going to a huge, ornate building capable of containing 6,000 people, people will find that the steam bath has transformed into a steam shower , one that fits inside your own home, with seating for one or two people, depending on your preference.

Over the centuries, the public benefits of a sauna or steam bath has become one anyone can have for the price of an update to your home bathroom.

Getting a 2 person hot tub

Share Button

I am thinking about getting a 2 person hot tubs installed on my balcony. I think this will be the best size for the place I have for a hut tub to be placed. I live in a second floor condo and have a great balcony and nice view across a park. This balcony could fit a smaller hot tub, a two person hot tub is about the biggest I could go there for size and weight. It has been a while that I have been thinking and dreaming about getting a hot tub installed and with some research and investigation I found no reason not to move ahead with getting a hot tub. The major consideration was going to be size at first, I didn’t realize how compact some models are and now that that issue has been worked out all I need to do is figure out if I will go with a permanently installed hot tub or get a portable hot tub. There are benefits to both and cons to both as well. The expense and logistics of running the plumbing and wiring may end up dictating I go with a portable variety. I will have to get a contractor in to give me an estimate as to how much that will be. Once I get the information I will know if I will go with a portable hot tub or a permanently installed one.

Either way I am looking forward to being able to relax in my own private hot tub. At the end of a long day getting into the hot water and letting the water from the jets message my aching tense muscles. It sounding too good to be true. But in fact it looks like it will become a reality in the not to distant future.

In the summer, Americans basically live outside. From Memorial Day to Labor Day we grill our meat over an open flame, chill in our hottubs or by the pool.  Making the most of your outdoor living space is never a bad idea. If you have a pool in your backyard you should think about adding a hot tub spa to your outdoor repertoire. They are great for relaxing. Especially if you are an athlete or older and have any aches and pains, a spa is a great way to help with those. In fact, that is what the technology was originally invented for. The inventor made a pump to attach to his son’s bath tub because he had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis from birth. After the technology worked for him, the inventors decided to manufacture it and make money off of it. That family was the Jacuzzi family. And you thought that was just a funny name for one.

Another great way to spend time outside with your family is with your grill. If you use your grill a lot you should consider getting a built in grill. They are great in making your outside living area more tailored to your needs. You can get all the bells and whistles to go along with these types of grills as well. If you grill often it could be a good use of your money to upgrade your outdoor cooking abilities. They have something to suit your every need depending on your lifestyle.

Taking to your backyard can be more fun and rewarding with a few upgrades. Nothing beats spending time with your family and if you give them a place to hang out together it will be easier to have fun.

Hot tubs in history

The modern day hot tub, Jacuzzi or tub has deep historical roots. This form of relaxation has been around for centuries. People have been using geysers, hot springs and other forms of hot water to relax for years and years.

In ancient Egypt there were hot springs that were said to have healing powers. So pharaohs bathed and waded in the springs to promote health and relaxation. Ancient Greece philosophers put a premium on the healing powers and importance of water.  Civilizations were built around hot springs, geysers and water. They knew the importance and thought there were health benefits to building cities around them.

There was also importance put on geysers and hot springs in the Far East and those cultures as well.  Historically, probably the most ancient form of hot tubbing for social and relaxation gains were in Rome and Roman cultures. Roman Baths were a meeting place for important people. The history of Bath, England started after the area was used as a series of hot tubs and bathing areas that were used by Queen Elizabeth.

Modern day spas and hot tubs are the product of one family, the Jacuzzi family. A bath tub pump was invented because one of the Jacuzzi sons suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and they wanted to help ease his pain. The family refined the technology and then released it, called the Roman bath, good name huh? Hot tubs at that time were seen as something only the rich had in their homes. Today there are varieties for every budget.

And now with the internet you can find a great deal to get your piece of the luxurious history. Websites like choosehottubsdirect.com offer a variety of tubs that will fit your budget.

Now anyone can have history and relaxation in their backyard, rich or not.

The Care, and the Benefits, of Hot Tubs

Share Button

There are certain considerations to the care of hot tubs, such as maintaining temperatures and the cleaning process.  Once a cover is removed and the jets are turned on, should they be forced-air jets, the temperature of the water will begin to decrease at a fairly rapid rate.  Should one wish to cool the temperature, one may add cooler water.  The more people join in the tub, the more the water will cool.  In response one may want to raise the temperature on the thermostat to counter act this.  Perhaps even adjusting the temperature ahead of time, as once the water cools, it will a bit of time for it to heat up again.  Many varieties of tubs with various modes of thermostat control are found at choosehottubsdirect.com.  Not only will the right hot tub for ones needs be found here, but also the many other appliances and items that make ones ownership of the spas more enjoyable.

It is important that one keeps the water in their hot tub clean.  Warm water will promote the growth of bacteria faster than the cool water of a swimming pool, so care must be taken to add the necessary chemicals and agents to the water.  Most of the species found in the tubs is not fatal, but they have been known to be responsible for various rashes on the skin.  Also, from time to time, it is best to just change the water completely.  All this aside, owning a hot tub is a wonderful experience, the health benefits and the relaxing social situations that occur are well worth the time and the energy it takes to maintain the spa.

One of the results of soaking in the hot water is that the blood vessels will dilate and the blood pressure will lower.  And consequently, circulation will increase, which leaves one with the feeling of rejuvenation after a long hard day at the office, or the many hours of transporting kids from one activity to another.   The buoyancy one feels while in large bodies of water, not only feels wonderful, but is wonderful for the physical body.  Pressure is removed from the joints and the spinal column, relieving tension and relieving the work load of the heart, believe it or not.  And while soaking at night serves to relax one and get them ready for a night of sweet dreams and peaceful sleep, soaking in the morning will have the effect of revitalization and energy necessary for the start of the day.

Grilling vs. Barbecue-ing

Share Button

There’s no doubt that built in gas grills offer some extraordinary features that will help you to master the art of cooking.  You’ll certainly be the envy of the neighborhood, and the opportunities for outdoor parties just got much more interesting.  You’ll want to start experimenting right away, and as the results get more and more precise, the more you’ll want to keep trying new things.  There’s no end to the combination of flavors and textures, and like anything worth learning, there’s always more to know.

There are lots of grilling techniques and hints that you already know, and many more that you’ll come across.  It’s worth investigating all the differing opinions on the best way to do things, with certain cuts of meat and certain types of preparation.  One of the outdoor kitchen topics that often brings up a lot of interesting contention is the issue of barbecue-ing vs. grilling.  There are some who say that there isn’t a big difference, but really, there is, and it’s pretty simple.  Grilling means preparing cuts of meat by cooking on high heat, directly, for short periods.  Barbecue (or barbeque, or bb-q, etc.) means slow cooking over indirect heat, where the fire passes through wood.  Wood has to be involved somewhere, or it’s not barbecue, because it refers to the taste in the smoke.

With this said, it’s certainly possible to escape the debate between barbecue and grill and slow cook meat on your grill, and give it a taste that is very similar to barbecue.  Your grill is extremely versatile, and a barbecue by definition is not.  The best barbecue, after all, is a hole in the ground that’s dug for one occasion.  There are ways of flavoring meat while it’s cooking that can give you the taste you’re looking for, and ways of experimenting with these tastes.  The easiest way, of course, being to simply add barbecue sauce.  If that’s the rather obvious technique, then be sure to add the sauce at the very end, since sugar tends to burn.  However you cook it, though, you’ll soon find yourself enjoying the preparation as much as the consumption.

The Inexpensive Portable Spa

Share Button

Many have the misconception that the addition of a portable spa to their home, may serve to drastically increase electric or gas bills.  It is a conundrum of the economic times. Should one install a spa in their home, which will serve to provide hours of relaxation and the reduction of stress…or would the addition of that spa create more stress due to rising prices of services such as natural gas heating or electricity?  The usage of power required to heat a spa, is low.  And any size heater will serve to heat the portable spa efficiently, of course the larger the heater, the hotter the water.  But most are built with the capacity to provide the desired temperature to wash away stress and relax the muscles.  With portable spas, any heating system will suffice, however if one decides to install and in-ground spa, the heater is considered separately.  Spas that are installed in-ground are considered in the industry as, additions wherein customized design is intrinsic.  If the spa requires the installation of a gas heater, the initial cost will be greater, but in the long run will serve to save money on the monthly bills.

Once one decides on the model of spa that best fits their homes and lifestyles, one will find that there are many options, be it the choice to install one in the ground or structure of their home, and the choice of the many different shapes and designs and sizes.  It is best to try these out in the stores, as some spas offer seating that is contoured and allows one to stretch out. Each body is different, and as such, each spa is different as well.   Some spas are even equipped with lights, of which one can switch out the gel covers or the light bulb colors to add to the mood and the atmosphere.  Some people do not consider this option when first purchasing their spa, which means that when they do decide later to add the light, it could mean additional costs.  It is best to consider this before the installation process is complete.  When ordering a spa, one has the option of choosing where the jets are as well.  Affecting the angles and the direction of the water to best relax those areas of the body that require the most attention.   Which ever model one chooses, a home spa is a relatively inexpensive way to retreat from the daily grind on a nightly basis.
