New Apple Phone to Be Revealed

The newest phone from apple, the 4th Generation Iphone (which has been nicknamed the 4G, but probably will not as it most likely does not support 4G networks yet) will be unveiled on June 7th. There has already been a lot to do about this new phone when one escaped from an apple employee as he was partying in a bar and made it into the hands of a couple of tech bloggers. Because of this, people are expecting less of a surprise in what the new Iphone features will be.

Oil spill Last Week is Causing New Problems

While the whole story can be found on other places on the web, the short end of it is that a British Petroleum oil rig crashed and sank last week. The whole thing has been leaking since then and they are now sure of at least three spots from which it is leaking. The oil came very close to the shoreline, but Obama is doing everything in his power to get it cleaned up as soon as possible. The American people will not have to pay for the clean up, that bill will fall on the hands of BP.

Southwestern Company – A Family of Companies

Southwestern Company is not just about helping college students for the short term with their educational expenses. There is a long-term opportunity that offers students a game plan beyond their senior years in college. It teaches students responsibility, hard work, budgeting, motivation, and sales by allowing them to start their own business, be responsible to only themselves, but also all of the hard things that come with that, like long hours out and about, hoping for just one sale.

The 155-year-old Southwestern Company, headquartered in Nashville, TN, is a successful private company, built by, led by and owned primarily by graduates of the summer internship program. From the early stages of the program, college students are learning to effectively build their own Southwestern business with a growing stream of income, residuals and equity ownership.

The Southwestern Company summer internship is designed to allow the student to graduate already owning their own business, putting them in the position to not have to write a resume upon graduation if they choose. If they do choose to write a resume however it will be a spectacular one, and interviews with them will never be boring, but rather filled with stories of hard work, hard days, as well as the best of things.

Additionally, with the recommendation of their sales manager, the student has a choice of careers with over a dozen companies under Southwestern Company‘s corporate umbrella. While it is very competitive to get into one of these positions, that does not mean it is hard, because the skills that are taught in the trainings and on the road are the keys to success in the company as well. The companies represent a variety of industries and have available positions in management, sales and support functions. The various industries include publishing, finance, insurance, consulting, sales, fund-raising, executive search, fine art and real estate just to name a few. Students also have the opportunity to start up a new company utilizing Southwestern Company’s support in resources and capital.

Harlem Music School May Have to Close

Unless well known Harlem Music School raises $500,000 by the end of June they will not be able to open their doors again in the fall. This will be a huge issue in the middle of inner city Harlem where this school has become the shining light in a number of kids lives, as well as keeping them off the streets and away from a life of crime.

Employees Should Be Aware Of What They Text

Just as a study was put out about how much teens love to text, another story broke about what might happen to you if you are texting on your company phone. A police officer may be in trouble if his case turns up that the City worker who was reading his private text messages sent on his work phone was not in violation of his rights. Unfortunately for many employees these days, work phones are the way many people communicate with each other, even when not at work. If that is you, you may want to re-think the way you have been talking to people, what messages have been sent out from your phone, and if you might be in trouble next.

NY Beats: Backwards and Forwards

One of the most unusual tours one can take in New York City would have to be in following the path of the Beatniks by frequenting their favorite bars and pubs. Dylan Thomas’ last watering hold, the White Horse, is on the list, as are Kettle of Fish and Cafe Reggio . Although some of the spots were frequented by Ginsberg and Burroughs, it’s the ghost of Kerouac who lurks behind it all, and that might make just about anyone a little uneasy.

There’s no formal tour, of course, because herding people who are interested in both the Beat Generation and in bars would be as easy as herding cats, but it’s always an option. Literary tours are usually pretty fun to try, and this one holds a lot of promise, although it holds equal parts despair. That goes with the movement.

John Clellon Holmes wrote more eloquently than anyone, perhaps, about this movement. His article for the New York Times Magazine in 1952 is still some of the very best writing about the Beats. Without the benefit of any hindsight whatsoever, he wrote in the middle of the busiest part of the storm, and manages to capture all the essentials, including a discussion of how that generation was so reluctant to adopt any labels, or to make any kinds of prescriptions for would-be Beats. It was a life, not an art form, and it wasn’t meant for mass consumption.

Lots of the ghosts are still around, the people having passed from one side of the ground to the other, and there’s something reassuring about their iconicity. It’s almost as if anyone with a restless heart has the possibility of becoming a revered ancestor. A stay in a hotel in the city can bring some of the romantic energy out of every visitor, but it’s a reciprocal proposition. The spirits in the walls of these revered taverns do seem to like to be remembered, and the living inhabitants like a good conversation.

Search in the Now Generation

Seeing as how we are solidly in the “Now” generation, and everything should be delivered to us “Now!” it is now wonder that search engines are trying to perfect the ability to get us the relevant information that we want to know about, as it is published. A new article came out recently regarding what this is going to mean for the three search engine giants, twitter, you  and much more.

StartupRoots Sets Up Interns and Startup Companies

Some students dream of interning at a small startup company, being there when it takes off, and hopefully being kept on as it fly into stardom. There has not really been a way for students to find these companies unless they happen to already know someone who is starting a company right now. StartupRoots is working to change this.

Jim Carry Tweets About Elin

There has been a fiasco going on in Hollywood as Jim Carry jumped on his computer to tweet his feelings about Elin, wife of Tiger woods. Obama’s Health Care Reform Brings Hope For His Middle East Policy

Once in a while there is a great article, and for every person that article will be different. For some this is going to be one of them, and for others you will want to just set it aside and pretend you never saw it. Don’t just read the content though. If you don’t like Obama at least listen to the message. While it ends on a note of uncertainty, who can be certain with the political climate surrounding the Middle East. The point of the article though is that whether you agree with the plans or now, reaching this point in Obama’s health care plan shows that maybe, just maybe he does know what he’s doing and can follow and shape the long game. That is what it took to get him here. If you do like Obama, this is one more thing that gives you hope for his ability to handle the Middle East.

If you would like to learn more about this, here is the article.

Spring Break in Palmdale

I’ve heard some interesting things about Palmdale, California from family members who live there. They told me that it’s a great place to vacation at and there’s plenty of hotels , golf courses, great nightlife and that they made the top 25 list for the fastest growing cities. So, they (my cousins, Aunt and Uncle) finally convinced me to come out for spring break. I know Palmdale wouldn’t be like Fort Lauderdale, or Galveston or Rocky Point, but I do miss my Mom’s side of the family, I haven’t seen them for almost 5 years, so off I went.

When I arrived, I was immediately struck by the small town charm and the quaint downtown area. I could tell that Palmdale is definitely a family oriented town and it lacks any major highways going through it, which is what they consider a major accomplishment. I pulled up to my favorite cousins home, and there was a big sign that plastered the garage ‘Welcome Stupid Cousin!’, yep…that’s why she’s my favorite. After getting all caught up with her, she drove me over to see my Aunt and Uncle, and it was great to see them too! My other cousins were there also, I swear cousins come in dozens!

We all headed to Hart Park to have a picnic, I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve been on a picnic in the park! Hart Park is named after William S. Hart who was an actor in the silent film era and he donated this 260-acre part of his ranch to the city of Palmdale. After spending the entire day with my extended family, it was time for me to find my hotel. They insisted I stay with them, but I insisted that I stay by myself, I mean, I really love my mom’s side of the family, but staying an entire day and an entire evening with them would drive me nuts, really! They are the weirdest bunch of lovable people, but weird is as weird does.

So, after checking in, my favorite cousin and I checked out the El Dorado Restaurant Bar & Dancing club . I told her, that it is spring-break after all, and I needed to get in some partying before I head back to college. We danced and drank the whole night away. It’s been a while since she’s done that much partying, and she was too drunk to drive home, I was too drunk to drive back to my hotel, so guess where we both ended up staying the night? At my Aunt and Uncles, we called them from the bar and asked them to pick us up. We laughed to whole way to their house, we were so drunk.

The next mornings hangover and seeing that I woke up on a sofa bed down in the recreation room of my Aunt and Uncles reminded me of why I don’t like spring breaks.
