Live the Outdoor lifestyle

In the summer, Americans basically live outside. From Memorial Day to Labor Day we grill our meat over an open flame, chill in our hottubs or by the pool.  Making the most of your outdoor living space is never a bad idea. Here are a few ideas to consider if you want to remodel your backyard and turn it into a backyard oasis.

If you have a pool in your backyard you should think about adding a hot tub spa to your outdoor repertoire. They are great for relaxing. Especially if you are an athlete or older and have any aches and pains, a spa is a great way to help with those. In fact, that is what the technology was originally invented for. The inventor made a pump to attach to his son’s bath tub because he had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis from birth. After the technology worked for him, the inventors decided to manufacture it and make money off of it. That family was the Jacuzzi family. And you thought that was just a funny name for one.

Another great way to spend time outside with your family is with your grill. If you use your grill a lot you should consider getting a built in grill. They are great in making your outside living area more tailored to your needs. You can get all the bells and whistles to go along with these types of grills as well. If you grill often it could be a good use of your money to upgrade your outdoor cooking abilities. They have something to suit your every need depending on your lifestyle.

Taking to your backyard can be more fun and rewarding with a few upgrades. Nothing beats spending time with your family and if you give them a place to hang out together it will be easier to have fun.

Hot tubs in history

The modern day hot tub, Jacuzzi or tub has deep historical roots. This form of relaxation has been around for centuries. People have been using geysers, hot springs and other forms of hot water to relax for years and years.

In ancient Egypt there were hot springs that were said to have healing powers. So pharaohs bathed and waded in the springs to promote health and relaxation. Ancient Greece philosophers put a premium on the healing powers and importance of water.  Civilizations were built around hot springs, geysers and water. They knew the importance and thought there were health benefits to building cities around them.

There was also importance put on geysers and hot springs in the Far East and those cultures as well.  Historically, probably the most ancient form of hot tubbing for social and relaxation gains were in Rome and Roman cultures. Roman Baths were a meeting place for important people. The history of Bath, England started after the area was used as a series of hot tubs and bathing areas that were used by Queen Elizabeth.

Modern day spas and hot tubs are the product of one family, the Jacuzzi family. A bath tub pump was invented because one of the Jacuzzi sons suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and they wanted to help ease his pain. The family refined the technology and then released it, called the Roman bath, good name huh? Hot tubs at that time were seen as something only the rich had in their homes. Today there are varieties for every budget.

And now with the internet you can find a great deal to get your piece of the luxurious history. Websites like choosehottubsdirect.com offer a variety of tubs that will fit your budget.

Now anyone can have history and relaxation in their backyard, rich or not.

How to market your invention

Do you have a stellar idea that you think other people will be into?  The first thing you need to consider is if you think that people will need your product. There are certain things you should consider before you take your invention to the next step.  You need to make sure that the prototype of your design is free of any kind of flaws. You need the absolute perfect version of your invention before you even think about applying for patents to protect your rights to your inventions.

You also will need to think about hiring an attorney. There are a lot of legal aspects you need to think of before you take your invention out on the market.  The decision that needs to be made is if you want to maintain full control of your concept or if you are willing to give the rights to your product to a business or person that is already established. It is a big decision to make, because after you give up the rights, you may never get them back. But, giving up some of your control might also lead to you having a successful product.

The type of attorney you need is a patent attorney. They will help you draft an agreement of nondisclosure. Meaning that your invention or idea cannot be divulged without your knowledge, this is used to protect you.

Next thing you should do is think about a marketing plan or strategy. Decide what price you want to set for the product and write yourself out a budget to cover expenses for traveling to promote your invention or idea. If you want people to know about your product, then you need to tell them.  Start thinking about what kind of press you want your product to receive and after you receive your patent what kind of press release you should write. Consult the book by Steve Barbarich called “The Complete Manual on How to Make Money on your Inventions and Patents.

Eating disorders and addiction

Most of the time one does not think of eating disorders and drug rehab going hand in hand.  Eating disorders have long been seen as something that only affects adolescent girls. But now it is becoming an epidemic among women of all ages and even men.

There are three main eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa.

Anorexia nervosa is when a person does self-starvation and that leads to excessive weight loss.

Binge eating disorder is when a person sits down and eats a lot in one sitting. It turns into a disorder when a person does this over and over.

Bulimia nervosa is when a person binge eats and then self induces vomiting afterwards.  They are compensating for their binge eating by vomiting.

People who have drug addiction can also show signs of eating disorders. This is when dual diagnosis is needed and treatment needs to be tailored to the individual.

Eating disorders can start at a young age. They can start due to low self-esteem, feeling inadequate or depression.  Eating disorders can also result from troubled family or personal relationships and even societal pressures.  Eating disorders can also run in families meaning they could be genetic.

Eating disorders along with addiction can be difficult to treat. This is because the treatment for the addiction focuses on abstaining from the substance you are addicted to. Having an eating disorder brings in another factor, because a person cannot give up food entirely, like they can with other substances.

When a patient achieves sobriety, often times their eating disorder can even become worse.  That is why it is important to enter a facility that can help deal with both problems as one and not separately.

Eating disorders and drug or alcohol addiction can be tricky to treat. But as with anything it’s all about hard work and the right program.

The Practice of Due Diligence

The term due diligence refers to the practice of thoroughly investigating and researching any business or individual with whom one is about to conduct business transactions.  It is the process of checking all the facts.  It is simply the steps that everyone should take before entering into a contract, a transaction or an agreement with another entity, be they an individual or a company.  What does this practice ensure?  It serves to ensure that all steps were taken to decrease the probability of harm caused to either the buyer or the seller, or the investor and the lender.

This concept is applied in many aspects of life, not just financial institutions and/or transactions.  It is applied by any person, taking the time for being responsible, to take care to know all the facts before signing on the dotted line.  This involves taking the time to investigate one’s records, financial and personal, to performance or in some cases the following through of legal requirements.  For example, should one company be considering the acquisition of another, financial records and assets are studied and performance levels are evaluated.  In this case, although the requirements may not involve the legal spectrum, they may just involve good business practices.

In the political realm, people in the general public practice due diligence in the days leading up to an election.  By knowing as much as they possibly can about the candidates, their decisions will be made based on the investigations into the character, the honesty, the integrity, and the intelligence of the individuals for whom they are voting.  For the individuals who are in the business of politics, due diligence must be practiced when deciding from where they will accept campaign funds, or who and what they will attach themselves with or to, in order to protect themselves and their party from scandal.

And in the financial sector, in banks and investment firms, due diligence is practiced in the development and organization of anti-money laundering agencies.  No respectable institutions wants to enter into business with those of the criminal element.  To know their customers is to protect not only the institution itself, but also the investments of the honest customers who may become secondary victims of the criminals involved in such acts.  Due diligence is just sound business practice.

New York Nostalgia and Woody Allen

In New York, casino hotels are becoming an excellent vacation choice.  With all the great things that New York can offer guests, in whatever part of the state one happens to be, in terms of history, culture, and a lively social scene, a casino means that everything is truly at your fingertips.  Our hotels are an excellent choice for luxury accommodations.  With an exquisite sense of design, fabulous food prepared by chefs who are versed in both traditional and contemporary trends in cooking, as well as superb service by professionals who understand hospitality, our hotels are meant to refresh the body and mind. The casinos offer their own unique brand of entertainment, and ours will certainly impress even  the most serious connoisseur.

New York has an amazing history, with an amazing number of talented people who have found themselves making a career here.  One of the most visible New Yorkers is the inimitable Woody Allen.  Interestingly, even this born-and-bred New Yorker is starting to comment that Manhattan is getting to be too expensive, and he’s filming more often in Paris these days.  But this New Yorker has had quite a life here, so far.  Born in 1935, he worked as a stand-up before earning a few paying gigs with the likes of Sid Caeser, who later hired him on his staff, where he learned his comedy-writing chops.  He has written plays that were Broadway hits, and have also had a good deal of stage life, Don’t Drink the Water, and Play It Again, Sam.

His early films are considered by some of his die-hard fans to be among his best, because of their rapid fire jokes, total abandonment of reason to the silliness of the situations, and their freshness that still holds up over the years.  But it was his Annie Hall that really attracted the attention of the world at large to his abilities.  This film, with Diane Keaton, is a sort of neurotic philosopher’s stone for romance in the U.S. in the 1970s, and speaks to subsequent generations as well.  He has, of course, made an astounding number of films since then, and has won awards and acclaim from critics and audiences all over the world.  Woody Allen grew up in New York at a time when it was possible to see Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis, and has remarked that he feels he was born too late.  There’s no telling whether the New York we visit now will be more or less remarkable, or what kind of history might be in the making.

Music and Food in Cape Town

For foreign tourists staying in the luxury hotels, Cape Town offers opportunities for shopping, for dining and jazz music, like no other city in South Africa.  The rate of exchange currently is such that the shopping is quite affordable, even more so that the cost of production for some of the items in the city is relatively low.  Jewelery prices in Cape Town are very low, and many of the most talented and experienced designers and artists of Africa live in Cape Town, making this the best place to find incredible treasures to bring home.  Bling is found in Cape Town.

One of the best places to go for one looking for jewelry to purchase is the Greenmarket Square.  All items in this market are well priced from clothing to art to wine and books and one will find something they love regardless of the budget.  This is not only a tourist attraction, but the favorite local hot spot for shopping and finding bargains with diversity and selection found few other places.

When one tires of shopping and is in need of some tasty nourishment, head over to Hout Bay harbor.  Street and carnival performers perform right next to the artists’ booths and the hotels, gardens and restaurants are outstanding.  One will find fresh and healthy gourmet cuisine at the restaurant called Pure, wherein a dessert of wasabi ice cream is the appetizer.  Desserts for appetizers, the only kind of place.

And when the shopping and the feasting is done, and one is looking for some relaxation and entertainment, there is always Cape Town Jazz.  The musicians of Cape Town fuse the jazz of America with Malay and Totsi rhythms.  One of the best places to catch a live jazz act is at the Green Dolphin, which sits on the waterfront, and is known for bringing in the finest of jazz musicians on a nightly basis.  The flavor of the mojitos,  the smell of the sea and the cool vibe of the jazz cats, all any traveler could want after a day of sight seeing in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Pineapple Industry

Pineapple used to be big business in Hawaii. Sugar and Pineapple used to be words synonymous with Hawaii, but now those fields have all been replaced with housing developments, condos and resort hotels.

Del Monte, after harvesting pineapple in Hawaii for 90 years, decided to cease its operations at the end of 2008. This decision left 700 people without a job. The company said that it decided to cease operation in Hawaii because it is cheaper to grow pineapple in other parts of the world. With the closure of the Del Monte plantation now only Dole and the Maui Pineapple company grow Pineapple in Hawaii.

It is believed that pineapple was brought to Hawaii by the Spanish in 1527, arriving on Spanish ships. James Drummond Dole is credited with advancing the pineapple industry in Hawaii. Dole also purchased the entire island of Lanai, the sixth largest Hawaiian island and turned it into “Pineapple Island.” However, production of pineapple ceased in 1992, on the island of Lanai. You can visit Lanai with Lanai vacation packages to discover its pineapple past.

The Dole Plantation is still in operation to this day. Today however, Hawaii does not even rank in the top ten for pineapple production in the world.  It produces less than 2 percent of the world’s pineapple. The Dole plantation operates on Oahu and roughly a million people visit the plantation each year. The site includes an entire “pineapple experience.” At the plantation you can go through the pineapple maze or ride the train, called the Pineapple Express, and is a train tour that is fully narrated.  Not bad for a place that once started out as a fruit stand.

Although, the pineapple industry is not what it used to be, it’s still a big part of the Hawaii culture and history to this day.

Proper Door Locks and Common Sense to Prevent Home Burglary

There are many steps one can take to protect themselves and their property against the threat of burglary.  When ones home or car gets broken into, it may take a considerable amount of time to regain a sense of safety and security.  According to the statics stated by the FBI, every fifteen seconds someone becomes the victim of a break in.  This is however, one of the most preventable crimes, and home owners have many options available when upgrading the security of ones home and possessions.  Just taking a few precautions, simple steps, one can reduce this risk dramatically.

When a burglar is checking out a neighborhood for possible targets, they look at a few aspects of the houses and make their determination on which will be the easiest target, with quick access and hidden visibility.  They know which houses have items worth stealing and they look for homes wherein the occupants are not in.  Many break-ins occur in broad daylight, as that is when most people are away at work.  Some suggestions to fool a burglar into thinking that the home is occupied include setting the radios and TVs to timers, as well as some of the lights throughout the house.  There are even some sophisticated systems that will open and close curtains and blinds through the day, giving the illusion that some is home.

Also, one of the most important steps to preventing a burglary is by installing proper door locks, ones that will make the job of breaking into your house, a little too difficult and too time consuming.  Dead bolt locks seem to the be the lock of choice.  Many burglars will simply hammer off a door handle to gain access should the only lock securing the door be located in the handle.  And it may seem like a common sense statement, but always lock those doors when leaving.  Sometimes it may slip ones mind should they be in a hurry, or seem like a nuisance when ones hands are full, but each homeowner can take these simple steps in preventing the crime from happening to them.
