Different Drug Rehab Programs

When deciding on an alcohol or drug rehab facility for your friend or loved one it’s important to consider what type of treatment would be best for the individual before making a decision on where to send this person.  Many different programs offer different drug or alcohol rehabilitation therapies ranging from equine therapy, long term rehabilitation, and art therapy.  These different rehabilitation types come with different costs associated with them and should be examined thoroughly before making the final decision.
Certain individuals respond better to certain therapy types so it’s important to think long and hard about this before any final decisions are made.  Different types of therapies work in different ways to the individuals benefit.  You want to make sure that your friend loved one is getting the best possible treatment that is going to last longer than when they exit the rehab facility.
The less effective a treatment is the more likely that person is to relapse.  By choosing the incorrect treatment type you are decreasing the chance that the drug and alcohol rehabilitation works over the long run, and additional stints in rehab facilities may be necessary.

Visiting Dubai

As one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai’s major industries include real estate, trade, and tourism. Most people who speak of Dubai are referring to the Dubai Municipality or what’s known as Dubai city, rather than the entire emirate.

Known to the British as Al Wasl, Dubai is the most populous city in the UAE. It is ideally situated on the southern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by the Persian Gulf. This gives Dubai a number of excellent beaches, even though the city is located in the desert.

The city’s growing tourist trade has led to some interesting expansion of the area. Dubai boasts the three largest man-made islands in the world, the Palm Islands. Some of the most expensive real estate in Dubai is located on these islands.

Dubai is a truly modern city. Visitors will find shopping malls, high rise office buildings, and climate-controlled 5 star hotel in Dubai. There are also more traditional attractions such as museums, mosques, and local markets known as souks. Those wishing to get a feel for the city’s past can take a cruise on Dubai Creek which features ships and structures in Old Dubai.

Some of the more exciting activities in Dubai include seaplane tours, hot air balloon excursions, scuba diving amongst shipwrecks, and taking a desert safari ride.

Johannesburg as Tourist Destination

The city of Johannesburg is the center of industry and business in South Africa. It attracts a lot of business and financial travellers, but is not particularly known as a destination for tourists. Rather, most vacationers who find their way to Johannesburg do so as a way of connecting to other parts of the country such as Durban and Cape Town. The city has actually worked hard in recent years to develop attractions designed to convince visitors to stay in Johannesburg for awhile, or to come back on a separate trip.

Some of the recent attractions to open in Johannesburg include the Apartheid Museum. The city actually has a number of interesting museums including the Museum Africa and the Johannesburg Art Gallery as well as the Hector Pieterson Museum which is also a recent addition. The Johannesburg Planetarium is also of interest.

Another recent development in the city designed to draw tourists and residents alike is Gold Reef City, which is a large amusement park. For those who prefer wildlife and nature, a visit to the Johannesburg Zoo, the Walter Sisulu Botanica Gardens or the Montecasino Bird Gardens are in order.

Many visitors find that the city’s former townships provide a unique persepective on South African history and culture. Alexandra and Soweto are popular destinations, esp. the Mandela Museum in Soweto. Other cultural areas to investigate include the Mellville Village, the Lesedi Cultural Village ad the Market Theater precinct.

The city also has great shopping, wonderful restaurants, and wonderful Johannesburg hotels. Craft and flea markets offer local arts and crafts as well as traditional clothing and household items. The city’s shopping malls are designed in the style of western malls. The restaurants provide a stunning variety of cuisines including Indian, Mediterrarean, Chinese, and even European and cuisines from the America.

Kite Flying in Singapore

In the year, roughly, of 1500 AD, mention is made in the Sefarah Melayu, of start of the beginning of a new sport in Malaya, kite flying and kite fighting. In the beginning kites were crafted from objects of nature, various plants and leaves. The art of making kites in the way is Daun Wau Karun. Not long after it began in the states of Malaysian, it made its way to Singapore. In the making of kites, bits of cut glass were built into the body of the kite, which enabled flyers to cut the strings of the others’ kites. Which ever kite was left at the end, without the string cut and still flying was the winner of the fight. Other aspects of the fight offered up prizes as well, as whichever was the most beautiful or the biggest, or flew the highest or created the most loud of hums. So most often the kites were painted brilliantly and some required five or six people to help with launch.

Once launched, the kites and their fliers compete in the spectacular show from dawn until dusk, or until the last kite is left flying. Kite flying has remained a very popular form of artist expression and a well attended sporting event in Singapore. One such township where these competitions remain so is Marine Parade. Far from fancy shopping malls, restaurants and luxury Singapore hotels lies this Urban Planning neighborhood. Here on the eastern side of the island, near the sea, the public housing buildings stand amidst the business district and industrial sites. The kite flying competitions here are not confined to the spectacular festivals and celebrations. On any night during any given weekend, hand made kites can be seen, filling the sky. The competitions here are very competitive and remain to be a popular traditional past-time for the residents of this neighborhood and are pften watched by residents of 5 Star Singapore hotels.

2009 Reasons To Enjoy Singapore

Senior Minister of State and Trade for Industry of Singapore, S Iswaran, recently addressed Parliament on the opportunity to enhance tourism, to build and to strengthen. Due to the present state of the economy travel patterns must change. Tourists are seeking weekend get-a-ways, as opposed to month long holidays. Major cities are looking to offer weekend excursions to the people living within the limits, financial and geographical. Campaigns have recently started to target this potential intra-regional traffic and rely on the demand for residents of a particular region, to vacation within that region. Intra-tourism campaigns are promoting vacations that do not involve spending large amounts of money or travelling too far to off destinations.

Singapore is one such city. Tourism in Singapore is expected to drop as much as 11% during this global recession. That is about 10 million people less able to travel about. The financial implications from this kind of decrease in travel is immense for all cities, and for the city of Singapore it is an approximate 9 to 9 and 1/2 deficit.

This country in Southeast Asia and its’ Senior Minister are not sitting by idle. Singapore was ranked by the Union of International Associations (UIA) in 2006, 2007 and 2008 as the top international meeting city in the world. Perhaps much to the chagrin of cities such as Zurich, Geneva, Manhattan, Paris and Vienna. Now the question remains, in this heightened economically uncertain time, how does one improve? How does one move from a city known for a very great place to hold a meeting to a very great place place for fun and adventure. From take out restaurants bearing no resemblance to the culture to 5 star Singapore hotels? What kind of encore is needed to sustain and improve upon this current situation? Most are expecting all travel to slow down, business and pleasure.

Government programs assisted people during the American Depression resulting in production of plays and artworks and music for all to enjoy. Big bands and swing music were popular during the 1930s, singers like Frank Sinatra went out on their own. Singapore artists, such as Liu Kang and Lim Tze Pen, or movies such as “12 Storeys” or “Bugis Street”, or musicians such as Peter Lye have played and will continue to be part of a growing industry of tourism in Singapore. Good luck and well wishes to S Iswaran, a man with a vision.

Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm & Zoo

One of the more popular (and usual) things to do in Bangkok is a trip to the Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo. World famous as the largest crocodile farm in the world, Samutprakarn has over 100,000 crocodiles.

Founded in 1950, the farm holds the Guiness Book record for the largest crocodile in captivity, weighing 2465 pounds and measuring nearly twenty feet long.

Part of what makes the farm so much fun is the daily shows. In addition to crocodile wrestling, they feature acrobat elephant shows. Where else can you watch someone put their head in a croc’s mouth and then watch elephants on skateboards and tightropes? Visitors also have the option of paddle boating, taking a train ride around the park, or even riding an elephant.

Although the Crocodile Ponds are a major draw, the zoo houses a variety of animals. There is a large population of alligators (fresh and saltwater) as well as hippos, tigers, lions, monkeys, horses, and elephants. There are also snakes, chimpanzees, and leopards. The farm also promotes education and wildlife preservation with a research center and a dinosaur museum.

The farm is only 10 kilometers outside of the city. After a day spent at Samutprakarn, visitors can settle into rooms at one of the best vacation spots in Bangkok or any number of available hotels and resorts. There are plenty of other attractions in the city to round out a vacation — and be sure to leave time to go shopping as Bangkok has some of the best bargains in the world.

Sport in Scotland

Scotland may be known for its Highlands and bagpipes, but the country also has a strong sporting tradition. Scotsmen take great pride in their home teams and the country has hosteda number of international competitions over the years. Fan flock to the country to attend the big sporting events, filling up the local hotels, hostels, and holiday cottages Scotland. Pubs and bars are prime places to celebrate victories or drown sorrows after a loss.

It’s impossible to think about sports in Scotland without considering golf. Golf was born here and every year thousands of fans make their way to St. Andrews in Fife which is the international “Home of Golf.” One of the oldest links courses is here. The Old Course has been in existence since the mid-sixteenth century. While you really can’t go anywhere in Scotland without passing a golf course, some of the more famous ones include Royal Troon, Carnoustie, Muirfield, and Gleneagles.

The world’s second oldest national football association is here. The earliest recorded football games in Scotland were in 1424 and the game has been played in different variations over the centuries, resulting in Association Football becoming the national sport. Scottish teams have brought home the European Cup, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. Scotland is the home of the Scottish Cup which is the world’s oldes national trophy in the sport.

Scotland also has a thriving rugby community with their own Scottish Rugby Union. In addition to the Rugby League World Cup and the Rugby Union World Cup, Scotland is also represented in the Cricket World Cup, the FIFA World Cup, and the Commonwealth Games. The one international competition that they don’t attend as an independent nation is the Olympic Games. Scotland has hosted the Commonwealth Games twice in the last forty years and will be the host country again in 2014.

The country is also host to the Highland Games and enjoys success in the sports of shinty and curling.

New York’s Melting Pot

New York City is in many ways a microcosm of the United States. It has been the country’s largest city for more than two hundred years and has been the home of waves of immigrants from other nations seeking freedom and prosperity. These immigrants brought their unique culture, traditions, and languages and much of that influence remains alive in today’s New York.

In addition to previous generations of immigrants, New York has a large population of foreign-born residents to this day (over one-third of the population). This is a result of a combination of factors. With the UN headquarters located in the city, New York has long been a center for diplomats and their families and support staff. Additionally, most of the major corporations in the world have offices in New York, drawing businessmen and women from the four corners of the globe to the city. Lastly, New York is home to a number of top universities offering undergraduate and graduate programs across diverse fields that attract students and faculty from all over the world.

This diversity is evident throughout the city. With around 170 languages being spoken in the city, it’s easy for American tourists to feel at times they are in a foreign country. Accents, clothing, and hairstyles also reflect the many cultures of New York residents. Music blaring from taxis and apartment windows hints at the origins of the inhabitants or of their parents and grandparents.

The food in New York also reflects this cultural melting pot. Pretty much any cuisine imaginable is available somewhere in New York. From the neighborhood-specific cuisines of Chinatown and Little Italy to the fusion and experimental restaurants in Manhattan. And don’t forget the incredible abundance of street food offering New York hot dogs, pizza, bagels, and pretzels, amongst many other dishes.

Of course, a visit to New York is going to include trips to some of the many museums and historical landmarks. A few, like the Statue of Liberty and the Ellis Island Museum reflect the city’s diverse population. Visiting some of the more famous neighborhoods, such as Harlem, will also provide insights into the variety of New York’s culture. The city is full of 4 star New York hotels, historic bed & breakfasts, New York Airport hotels and even apartment-swapping options that provide tourists with a comfortable place to stay during their visit.
