Madrid the Capital of Spain
Madrid is home to tapas bars, world class museums, a stunning nightlife which goes on all night long – it is a city that suits every taste. It is one of the greatest European capitals. It has been capital of Spain back in 1561 mainly because of its geographical location right in the center of the country.
When you visit one of the first things you notice about the city is that everything is big. The city’s main thourghfare the Gran Via, is a wide boulevard with cars zooming up and down all day and all night long. The Madrid art museum is one of the most stunning buildings in the country while the Bernebeu soccer stadium, home to world famous Real Madrid, is one of the world’s most impressive stadiums.
The center of Madrid is divided into six districts. The Sol district is at the heart of the city. It is busy during the day and night! Many of the five star Madrid hotels are situated in this area. It also has many major stores and shops, restaurants of all types and some of the city’s most exciting nightlife. Just north of Sol is the Malasaña district, which includes some of the city’s best bars and tapas bars. Other districts include Chueca, the city’s gay district, El Rastro, with the city’s famous weekly market, and Lavapies, Madrid’s most culturally diverse district.
