When on vacation, it can be easy to find the tourist heavy destinations, like in Florida; but, getting a break from all the commercialism associated with the tourist centers, and experience some of the truly local fare can be a good change of pace. The first and easiest place to find out about some ‘off the road’ type eateries or attractions is to ask the people at your hotel’s guest services. Let them know a little about what you are looking for and they will be more than happy to show you on Florida maps how to get there. Getting a recommendation from a local can sometimes work out better than what you read in travel magazine or guide.

Finding those last minute tickets can be hard, but if you ask the concierge of your hotel in the right way (more readily at luxury ones), you may be able to score those sports tickets or opera tickets that had previously been sold out. The concierge is just another well kept secret in the event ticketing business.
