Hotels Become More Environmentally Friendly

If checking into a hotel turns you into an amenities hog, beware — some hotels want you to start considering how your stay may affect the environment.

Hotel visits are typically synonymous with worry-free living: unfettered access to fluffy towels, hot showers, heated pools, supercooled rooms and wireless Internet. But these amenities, which typically run off energy produced from fossil fuels, release carbon pollution into the air.

From major hotel names such as Doubletree to smaller bed-and-breakfast spots, the purchase of carbon emissions is becoming the newest eco-amenity as these sites offer guests the option of making their travels “carbon neutral” at check out.  Read more
